No power, no water, and a lot of broken trees

Hello all.

If you have been paying much attention to the national news, you might have heard of the ice storm that has hit much of the nation. Kentucky has been hit hard and my house has been without water and electricity since Monday morning. Five days without power isn't so bad, but it is the no water issue that stinks... literally. No showers! Luckily, we have family in the city of Paducah who have gas water heaters and city water.
We had a power line to our house taken out by a branch that just about knocked our meter off of the pole! This also means that we are last in line for power. The Priority goes to what grids can supply the most power to the most people. Individual houses are last on the list. My house and my granny's house are at the end of that list. My house has the added bonus of being outside city limits which pushes the likelihood of getting power on soon out of sight. There are many broken electrical poles that have to be replaced and many of them are out in fields and hard to get to.
Thankfully, my dad happened to buy a generator not too long before this occurred. However, it is only a 110 generator and our water pump requires 220.(I had to wait in line for an hour to fill up some gas cans!) This is enough to keep out fridge and freezer cold though, and we are grateful for that. I am also grateful for a gas stove!
The temperature at night hasn't gotten below about 24 degrees, so blankets have been enough to stay warm at night and the house has stayed pretty warm. We have used oil lamps to see at night but we generally go to bed fairly early because there isn't much to do!
This situation should be a strong reminder to everyone to keep a food storage! Luckily, my parents have been working on that and we have had food. Also remember that items like candles, lighters and matches, batteries, a radio, and blankets should be included.

Cody still hasn't gotten a start date for work, so we are still in limbo for our travel plans. We also have a large amount of yard work to help with still!
